VIRTUAL FITTING ROOM

Background

Virtual fitting technology enables users to digitally try on clothes, outfits and styles. The experience uses skeletal tracking to digitally apply apparel or other merchandise to the users physical body. It acts somewhat like a magic mirror in that the image shows the person's true reflection, but with digital layers added into the scene. These technologies can be used in retail, at trade shows, experiential activations, even at home on mobile/tablet devices. Virtual fitting is even more powerful when combined with purchasing capabilities, allowing users to browse and buy products.

Context of the Program

Float will select one brand to build a scaled virtual fitting experience at retail stores across the country. Brands should have a desire to build a suite of fitting rooms for physical spaces that offer an enhanced shopping experience. The virtual fitting room will allow users to browse a selection of merchandise, digitally try on any item, take a picture with that item, and share with friends and family, all right from the display. Brands that are looking at virtual fitting as a long term solution at scale will have a significant advantage in being chosen.   

 

Why Apply

Virtual fitting technology will grow exponentially in 2019, with Amazon making news of late with the company’s announcement that they filed a patent to turn their Echo Look devices into virtual fitting rooms. These experiences will become mainstream as shoppers get used to interacting with smart mirrors. Brands that enter the space first will have a significant advantage in connecting with these digital savvy consumers.
